Happy birthday to me! Lol.
It's a very special birthday this year, because it's only 930am now and so far most things didn't go according to plan. 😂
At first the plan was to go to Coastal Settlement, because it has been 3 years since our last visit.
The hubs had suggested our all-time favorite carrot cake at Bedok market, which wasn't a bad idea either but we decided on CS.
This morning I quickly googled for the opening hours. 1030am.
We were sending the little boss to school at around 8am.
A bit troublesome to come home first before heading out again.
So I said let's go for carrot cake.
The hubs was like, You sure huh. You say one huh.
I said yes yes I'm sure.
Comfort food is always good.
So we drove there after dropping the little boss off in school and the hubs was saying, "That's your birthday cake lor, carrot cake."
Just before turning into the carpark, we saw the food centre looking really empty.. and then the signage that the entire place was closed for cleaning.
So we had to think of another place to go.
He suggested prata near my parents' place but I didn't have the feel for it.
Anyway the prata isn't the most awesome.
So I suggested to go to Chin Mee Chin.
I have always wanted to try the traditional coffee and toast but the hubs found it quite boliao to drive all the way to east coast road to eat bread.
Good coffee is always a good idea.
So I quickly googled for the address and it said "open from 830am".. and off we drove.
There was an empty parking lot in front of another coffee shop just before CMC, so we could walk over.
The hubs jokingly said, what if this CMC is also not open?
I said, "Then we just eat here lor", pointing at the coffee shop where our car was parked in front of.
CMC was just a few doors away so 2 minutes later, we found out that it is closed from 1 to 7 September, thank you very much.
So we had a breakfast feast at said coffee shop.
Well at least the name sounds very auspicious.
All my kind of breakfast food.
And the chwee kuey and coffee are pretty good.
Now we are back at home.
I'm chilling in bed listening to the hubs snore. He had a late night out with his friends last night so yeah, need to sleep.
I'm heading out for a facial at Bugis in a bit.
Nothing special, just trying to utilise my package (which was bought wayyy before I had Clarissa) because I haven't gone in a long, long time and I still have so many sessions I have paid for but not used.
Could have chosen the branch at the mall near our place but I booked the one at Bugis thinking I could go shopping and have some me-time a bit further away from home.
Actually it turns out that it doesn't matter because now I feel like I just need to lie down. 😂
Is it age? Or is it pregnancy?
Exactly 31 weeks today!
The baby is supposedly the size of a coconut, according to this pregnancy app I have in my phone.
And why do I even have an app. Lol.
I usually take leave on my birthday, unless there is a business trip or something important happening at work.
Much as I like (most of) my colleagues, I don't like celebrating my birthday in office.
I really appreciate the thought, but I don't like (or need) the attention.
It always feels a little awkward, having people sing the birthday song and then hang around for the cake but not really knowing what to say. 😂
I do celebrate for my reportees though! I think they deserve some pampering and appreciation, especially if they choose to come to work on their birthdays.
I also do not post my date of birth on facebook because I don't need my friends/acquaintances on fb to wish me happy birthday just because they get a reminder.
Friends who remember will remember. 1 text message beats 100 Facebook greetings. 😀
So I always feel very blessed on my birthdays when I receive text messages from my family and friends.
There is nothing wrong with birthday greetings on Facebook!
It's just a personality thing and personal preference.
I'm a little weird like that.
(Hint: See my Dayre handle. 😂)
Ooh forgot that we get a feet soak before facial.
Wanted to read a magazine but the room is too dark? 😂
Facial was ok?
It went on for more than 2 hours though, which was too long?
The head massage was good but the therapist didn't go all out with the neck and shoulder massage, probably because I'm pregnant.
They didn't try to hard sell any packages but she tired to get me to buy an eye mask.. which I rejected. 😂
The hubs picked me up before we went to pick up the little boss.
This morning at drop-off she asked who would be picking her up and I told her it'd be Daddy and Mummy.
"Mummy, can you buy waffle for me later?" She requested.
I said yes of course and she skipped into her classroom happily.
She was so delighted to see us at pick-up she ran all the way from the classroom to the gate shouting, "Mummy! Daddy! Mummy! Daddy!"
The next thing she asked?
Did you buy waffle for me?
Off we went to get her waffle!
I think the only few things she'd request to eat and ask for more are: Waffle, ice cream and biscuits. 😂
We went to pack dinner from the food centre opposite my primary school.
Felt like having the soupy bachor mee so we decided it'd be hawker food day today.
Most people would go for the famous 2 stalls at Blk 85 but my mom always gets our fix from this particular stall.
We reached slightly past 5 and the hubs went off to get the BCM while we waited in the car.
Given my track record today I told him to just get anything he wants if the stall is not open. 😂
5 minutes later, he called to tell me the stall's closed. 😭
But I was persistent and told him my mom said the stall only opens in the evening. So it might not be open yet?
True enough, he asked around and found out that it opens at 530pm.
Lol I don't know what I'd do/feel if the stall is really closed tonight.
I came home to this lovely bouquet of flowers from @Simiwako !
Aww thank you so much for being such a sweet friend and always being there for me!
I didn't realise that we've already known each other for 10 years!
We started in my current company in the same year and realised that we went to the same primary school. 😉
She's the closest friend I've made from this company.
And now we both have 2 girls (each), in consecutive years 2014, 2015, 2016 and soon, 2017. 😄
The boss approves and says it's very very nice. 😁
Tonight's 星期二特写 featured my secondary school.
So much nostalgia in a day lol.
We had a super strict discipline master and super strict school rules.
Our skirts have to cover our knees, fringe at least one centimetre above our eyebrows, diameter of our watches cannot cover more than half the size of our wrists, school bags cannot be too small.. and the list goes on.
Oh and during assembly our discipline master would watch us closely and catch anyone who lip syncs to the national or school anthem.
I wasn't sure how he managed to do that but it was super stressful.
He'd also conduct random spot checks and we'd get our classmates who meet the criteria to hide our watches / anything against the school rules in their pockets.
But of course our discipline master started checking everyone's pockets when he realised half the class didn't wear watches. 😂
It was rather stifling, but I guess we all turned out fine?
It is the school that nurtured my love for the Chinese language and writing.
They happened to feature the edition of 《艺林》, the annual compilation of Chinese essays from students, where I was editor.
I told the hubs, hey I was the Editor leh!
But he was totally unimpressed. 😐
It is also where I met some of my oldest friends whom I still keep in close contact with.
I'd like to think that the rules drew us closer and made us better people.
I wouldn't mind if Clarissa goes to the same school, though I guess the vibes and rules would be quite different now.
Back to work tomorrow after an extended long weekend. 😩
